New prostate cancer treatment research has been completed on HIFU as an alternative prostate cancer treatment
International HIFU and US HiFU are a few of the U.S. early adoptors of the technology awaiting F.D.A. approval in the States.
Alternative treatments become standard treatments after enough research can show the effectiveness and safeness of a treatment. For early stage prostate cancer, HIFU seems like it is here to stay.
For the treatment of prostatic cancer, focused ultrasound which creates the intense heat needed to destroy cancerous cells while not affecting surrounding tissue can treat the cancer without more severe side effects associated with surgery or other treatment method.
As study results are publshed in 2012 and going into 2013, the upcoming decision by the F.D.A. to approve the treatment will open the door for facilities in the States to begin offering the treatment under insurance coverage. Right now the HIFU treatment is only available within the trials in the U.S. or from the Bahamas, Mexico or Canada – however the treatments in those locales are rarely covered by any form of insurance.
